Too much influence is put on perfection. “Whose version of perfection”, I ask. We all try too much to please everyone else. We put pressure on ourselves to be the best we can be, but even that isn't good enough. We have to try harder to live up to someone else’s expectations. We live in a drive-through world where we demand things immediately, and even that isn't quick enough because you know we have things to accomplish, pushing ourselves even further. Here’s the first clue folks, as long as you are on Earth, there is no perfection. One thing may turn out more perfect than another by comparison, like a work of art but it may not be pure perfection.
What we can hope for is to be perfectly imperfect. The way I define it is to first accept that being this way is enough. I think it means being the best version of yourself is enough. I can accept that! We are all imperfect and isn't that great because it reminds me that we are all being unique and authentic. If we really look at it through the right lens, we can see that there is perfection within our imperfections. If we accept who we are fully, and even start to name it, then we can really see how these so-called imperfections are with us for a reason. It is our job to make peace with it.
I remember some parents saying just do the best you can. That was great advice!
Back in the day, I remember how I struggled with Algebra, and no matter how much extra help I received, I just didn't get it. I wasn’t supposed to. I knew even then that I would never use it, and I was imperfect with it. So what!
Although I am good at many things that I love. There are plenty of things that I am imperfect at: fixing physical things, ( although I am great at fixing emotional or spiritual things.) I can't do many technical things either. Anything to do with cars is a no. When I record and there is a mistake I just keep going as a way to show that that’s life. There will always be unexpected things that interrupt our lives, but if we can make peace with it and even expect it, we will be better off. Take stock, and accept that in this world it’s normal. So take a breath, relax, and love your imperfections.
