Self-Care Saves Lives

Many of us from the previous generations may have been taught that self-care is a luxury. We were wrong, and the ones who told us that were wrong as well. If we don't take care of our needs on all levels, mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical, then we won't have the energy to take care of those who depend on us either. Many may think it’s a sign of weakness that we should even have needs at all. It is not like a badge of honor to wear stating that we can just endure, and the more we keep moving, the stronger we appear to be. Not so! We are all human and the kind of things that are piled on us these days are just too much. It is so different than our parent's generation or grandparents' generation. We now live in a world that has so many stressors that just keep stockpiling onus day by day.

Stopping to take care of ourselves and our needs helps to reset us again. It can feel like letting steam out of a pressure cooker a little at a time. By going for bodywork or a massage it can help you release so much more than just tightness in your body. Whether you take a break and do something fun like going to a concert or movie this can be self-care as well. We need to find the humor in our lives and learn to laugh at how absurd everything is. Don't get me wrong, I am not laughing at the conditions in the world, there is nothing funny about that. I like to watch comedies that are mindless that gives me a break from all that challenges me. I like to watch funny animal videos as well because they are always entertaining. Every now and then I am brought to tears of laughter and I am reminded of how long it has been since the last good laugh I’ve had.

We all know the effects on our physical body and emotional body from long-term stress. We also know from the law of attraction that we have to stay positive or we draw in more stressors. All of us know this to be true, and all the worrying in the world won't change this. So by taking care of ourselves on all levels, the life we may just be saving may be our own. Every day pick at least one thing you can do for yourself to take a break and reset. After time, the little things will add up and you will feel better and better. Just try it and see!
